Gitano, a layered and textural abstract painting was inspired by the poems by Federico Garcia Lorca, born in 1898. The Romancero Gitano (Gypsy Ballads), is a poetry collection by Spanish writer from Andalucia first published in 1928, Lorca’s work and the novel The Alchemist by Paolo Coelho greatly inspired my travel to Andalucia in 2011, to experience Flamenco in it’s environment, to hear the duende and see the countryside. Lorca is undoubtedly one of Spain's most deeply appreciated and highly revered poets and playwrites. executed by Nationalist forces during the bloody Spanish Civil War. Lorca had close relationships with artists of the time and deep unrequited love for Salvador Dalí. Andalucia, the people, food, music and life just stole my heart.
